The original Brady background check bill, passed in 1993, took six years of hard work by Jim Brady and activists around the country! Over 3 million prohibited purchasers have been stopped from purchasing guns since then nationwide. Still, we must do more. There have been dozens of high profile mass shootings since then, and hundreds of thousands have lost their lives to gun violence, with millions more sustaining injuries day after day. We know that we can stop this epidemic with the right combination of legislation, enforcement and greater safety for all.
