“Our nation has been shocked once again by the reality of gunfire at yet another American school.  Our hearts go out to the families of the young people killed and injured in the Ohio shooting.  When parents cannot send their teenagers to school with any assurance they will return home safely at the end of the day, we have a serious gun violence problem that our political leaders must address.  It is simply too easy for young people to get their hands on deadly weaponry.  It is long past time for us to address this issue as an urgent national concern.”

Washington D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray will light a candle in honor of gun victims during a program Sunday at Shiloh Baptist Church. Confirmed guests also include U.S. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, U.S. Rep. Jim Moran, and Jim Winkler, Chair of the Brady Center’s Faiths United To Prevent Gun Violence coalition. The program will include a candlelight vigil, as well as performances by the choir and a local youth group. The World Choir Games Gold Medal-winning Voices of Unity Youth Choir will honor of people lost to gun violence. The choir, which earned gold during the 2010 world choir olympics in China last year, will commemorate gun violence victims during a special Sunday, January 8 concert in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The Congressional intern credited with saving the life of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will light a candle on January 8th to honor those lost to gun violence. Daniel Hernandez, Jr. will be among concerned citizens around the country taking part in the Too Many Victims National Candlelight Vigil.

Gun violence prevention activists Jeanne Bishop, Jennifer Bishop-Jenkins and their mother, Joyce Bishop, will join families around the country for the National Candlelight Vigil on Sunday, which marks the first anniversary of the Tucson shooting that killed six people and wounded 13 others.

International peace advocate William Kellibrew will light a candle for victims of gun violence on Sunday, January 8. The William Kellibrew Foundation works to support victims and survivors of crime as they cope with traumatic experiences and work to rebuild their lives; with a special focus on women, children and families.
