Title: “How Many of You Know a Friend or Relative Who Has Been Shot At?”
Publication Date: August 05, 2008
What does it say? Among fifth through 8th graders in southern and western Chicago public schools, more than a third know a friend or relative killed with a gun. Half know a friend or relative who has been shot at, with the vast majority knowing multiple people. Over a third have been shown a gun. The number one fear voiced by the children was “getting shot.”
How can I use it?
Some communities continue to experience gun assaults and homicides as a regular part of daily life. Use the facts in this study to rally parents in your community to urge elected officials to do more to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people.
