Title: Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted, 2007

What does it say?

In 2007, most officers (55) were feloniously killed by a firearm, an increase of 20 percent (46 to 55) from 2006.  The number of officers assaulted with a firearm decreased by 5 percent (2,290 incidents to 2,176).

Of officers killed with their firearms, 38 were killed with handguns.  Two officers were killed with their own weapons.

This report includes descriptions of the circumstances of attacks on law enforcement officers, by state.
