Title: Special Report on the Tea Party Movement
Publication Date: July 2010
What does it say?
This study examines the characteristics and beliefs of the Tea Party. Data was collected from three Democracy Corps national polls from April to June 2010. Supplemental data came from four Citizen Opinion focus groups of supporters and activists.
Tea Party supporters are more connected to the NRA than they are to Sarah Palin or Glenn Beck. Seventy-seven percent rate their feelings towards the NRA as “warm,” compared with a 75 percent “warm” rating for Sarah Palin and for Glenn Beck. Tea Partiers are likewise more pro-gun than “pro-life.” Only 61% have “warm” views toward pro-life organizations.
Tea Partiers comprise 25 percent of likely voters.
How can I use it?
Use the results of this study to demonstrate that Tea Party supporters are closely tied to the extreme gun rights ideology of the National Rifle Association.
