Title: Following a 50-Year Low, Law Enforcement Fatalities Surge 43 Percent during the First Half of 2010

Publication Date: July 2010

What does it say?

This article examines the number of law enforcement fatalities in the first half of 2010 (January 1 to June 30) compared to other recent years.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) found that after reaching a 50-year low in 2009, the number of American police officers killed in the line of duty (all methods) increased from 61 to 87 individuals (a 43 percent increase) from the first six months of 2009 to the first six months of 2010. Firearm-related deaths increased from 22 to 31 individuals.

How can I use it?

Use the results of this article to call for sensible gun laws to make it harder for dangerous people to get guns, including convicted felons and the dangerously mentally ill.  Weak U.S. gun laws threaten our law enforcement officers.
