Title: Contrasting Robbery – and Non-Robbery – Related Workplace Homicide: North Carolina, 1994 - 2003

Publication Date: January 2009

What does it say?

While the reasons and relations of perpetrators to workplace homicides vary, the weapon used to commit workplace homicide is decidedly a firearm: 83% of both robbery and non-robbery related workplace homicides were committed with a firearm. The study also found that the type of gun used most often was a handgun, except for homicides perpetrated by current employees, who used a handgun only 50 percent of the time and a shotgun 31 percent of the time.

How can I use it?

Use the information in this report to tell legislators, the media and general public the demonstrated danger of guns in the workplace.  Tell legislators to support stronger gun control, such as closing the gun show loophole, to help prevent tragedies from occurring in the workplace by keeping guns away from dangerous people.
