What does it say?
In 2008, most officers (35) were feloniously killed by a firearm, a decrease of 38 percent (56 to 35) from 2007. The number of officers assaulted with a firearm increased slightly (1 percent) from 2,216 incidents to 2,244.
Of officers killed with their firearms, 25 were killed with handguns.
How can I use it?
This report includes, by state, the number and descriptions of the circumstances of attacks on law enforcement officers, by state. The stories make very real the dangers faced by law enforcement because of easy access to illegal guns and could be used in testimony, letters to the editor, etc.
