State Awarded $1 Million Federal Grant to Develop Childproof Handguns
December 13, 2004  —  Senator Frank Lautenburg and Rep. Robert Menendez announced a $1 million federal grant to the New Jersey Institute of Technology to aid development of the nation?s first childproof handguns. The NIJ is developing biometric grip identification technology which will allow the handgun to be programmed to recognize approved users and prevent unauthorized use.
