Microstamping
Support this crime fighting bill in New York.

The New York State Senate is set to vote on important microstamping legislation, S. 6005-A.

This legislation would require that new semi-automatic handguns be equipped with technology that allows police to match shell casings found at a crime scene to the handgun that fired them.

This crime fighting bill is supported by 83 police departments and law enforcement organizations throughout New York and more than 100 mayors from across the state.

New York Scorecard

New York has strong gun laws that help combat the illegal gun market, prevent the sale of guns without background checks and reduce risks to children, according to the Brady Campaign. In the organization’s 2009 state scorecards released for all 50 states, New York earned 50 points out of a total of 100 and has the nation’s sixth strongest gun laws.

“New York is doing a better job than the vast majority of states in adopting laws designed to make it harder for criminals and other dangerous people to access guns,” said Jackie Hilly, Executive Director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, “but we can and will do more.”
