While Maryland has strong laws requiring background checks for all handgun purchasers and limitations on bulk purchases of handguns that prevent dangerous people from getting dangerous weapons, more needs to be done according to the Brady Campaign. In the organization’s 2009 state scorecards released for all 50 states, Maryland has the fifth strongest gun laws in the country earning 52 points out of a total of 100.
“Maryland has done a better job than most states in adopting laws designed to make it harder for criminals and other dangerous people to access guns,” said Lisa Delity, Board Chair of Ceasefire Maryland, “but more needs to be done.”
