While Massachusetts has strong gun laws that help combat the illegal gun market, prevent the sale of most guns without background checks and reduce risks to children, more needs to be done, according to the Brady Campaign. In the organization’s 2009 state scorecards released for all 50 states, Massachusetts earned 54 points out of a total of 100, and has the third strongest gun laws in the country.
“Massachusetts has taken important steps to combat the problem of illegal guns which fall into the hands of criminals and endanger our communities,” said John Rosenthal, President of Stop Handgun Violence.
