The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence (Brady Center) have created this privacy statement to inform site visitors of the Brady Campaign and the Brady Center's data collection and storage practices, and guidelines for use of visitor data. Our "Action Alert" utility allows you to email your legislators through our Web site. By entering your address and zip code, you are matched to the appropriate member of Congress. The utility that we employ allows us to log your letter and its recipient, permitting us to track how many letters are delivered to which officeholders. Your letter to your elected official will never be shared outside the Brady Campaign and the Brady Center.
Our servers collect and aggregate user information site-wide, including anonymous site statistics, such as the number of views of each page. We log domain names and/or IP addresses of visitors (such as aol.com, 188.8.131.52, etc.), which permits us to know from where visitors originate, or what access service they use, without knowing their individual identities. This "host level" tracking is one of the ways we assess Web site traffic patterns.

The Brady Campaign and Brady Center Web sites are designed to provide site visitors the opportunity to learn more about the campaign to prevent gun violence, read updated news on the campaign, take action by contacting legislators, and make financial contributions to support our work. Additionally, the Brady Campaign and Brady Center may include links to other organizations or Web pages on our Web site. The Brady Campaign and Brady Center are not responsible for the content, privacy policies, data security measures, or other links contained on Web sites linked from the Brady Campaign or Brady Center sites.
We take precautions to protect your information. When you submit sensitive information via the website, your information is protected both online and offline. Wherever we collect sensitive information (such as credit card data), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way. You can verify this by looking for a closed lock icon at the bottom of your web browser, or looking for "https" at the beginning of the address of the web page. While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, billing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. What information we collect
We use information provided by contributors for the purposes of processing payments and communicating about Brady activities as well as conducting the fundraising and other operations of Brady. This information may include name, amount donated, address, telephone number, donor comments, e-mail address, and any other personal information provided to us (“Contributor Data”). For donations by check, Contributor Data also includes the data visible on the check. As part of providing the best online experience, we may store various data collected as part of standard website operations (including ip addresses and cookies). We may use this data for purposes described in this policy, including analytical needs to improve the website function and experience.
Payment Processors and Other Service Providers
Payment processors allow contributors to give electronically using a credit card, or other payment method. These processors collect certain information from donors, and maintain strict privacy and security policies as part of their agreement with us to provide this service. - Informing contributors and subscribers about upcoming fundraising and other activities
- Internal research and analytics to improve communications
- Record keeping as required by law and best nonprofit practices

- Surveys and other analytical purposes
- Support activities related to the fundraising operations
In order to increase our fundraising ability, we occasionally exchange limited donor information with other non-profit organizations and subscription services with similar values. We use partners to provide online payment processing services but do not maintain individual credit card or bank information. If you pay by credit card, we do not store your credit card information, bank account numbers, or other financial account data sent directly to those processing services.
Note: donations by check are processed directly at our centralized partner located Hagerstown, MD Checks sent directly to our offices are kept secure in our financial department until deposited.
For your protection, we are committed to upholding high levels of web and data security. Among other things, we apply a range of security practices to maintain secure web access to sensitive data and undertake efforts to address security vulnerabilities for various tools and databases. Our policy is to only retain donor-related information as needed to fulfill the purposes of the highest standards for fundraising and organizational effectiveness and for the minimum periods as required by law or regulations.
You have certain rights with respect to the information we collect about you. Upon request, we will tell you what information we hold about you and correct any incorrect information. We will also make reasonable efforts to delete your information if you ask us to do so, unless we are otherwise required to keep it.
This policy applies to all fundraising efforts generated form the national Brady Campaign and Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Chapters who participate in the fundraising, however, are expected to adhere to the general principles set out in this policy.
