TRUMP BOOKENDS FIRST 100 DAYS WITH SAME BROKEN PROMISE
Trump Admin demands the NRA Convention be gun-free because they have no idea how many dangerous people are armed or who they are.
Solution: expand Brady background checks to all gun sales and abandon the NRA's 'Arm Anyone' bill."
WASHINGTON - Donald Trump will close out his first 100 days the way he started them, literally living his own broken promise to abolish all "gun free" zones on the first day of his presidency while he speaks in one. His first day was spent addressing the nation from a "gun free" zone. Today, on his 99th day, he'll talk to the National Rifle Association in Atlanta in a venue his team has once again mandated be free of guns. Brady Campaign president Dan Gross issued the following statement.
"Trump's speech today at the NRA conference is less about guns and more about some high caliber hypocrisy. Every day thousands of guns are sold in this country with no background check. As law enforcement and Secret Service know, that means anyone – terrorists, felons, criminals – can easily and legally be sold a gun in this country — ESPECIALLY in Georgia, where some of the worst "bad apple" gun dealers do business, and background checks aren't required for gun sales at gun shows and online. Every American deserves to be as safe from gun violence as President Trump is today. All it takes is simple reform to keep guns out of the hands of the people we all agree shouldn't have them.
"Let's be honest. Trump's real audience today is not the decent, law abiding members of the NRA. It's the leaders of the gun industry and their lapdog politicians, who are pushing for a bill that would allow anyone, criminal record or not, to carry concealed guns into any state - rendering local law enforcement powerless to do anything about it. Gun owners don't support it, law enforcement officers don't support it, the vast majority of Americans don't support it. But for a $30 million investment in his campaign, Trump does.
"The last U.S. president to speak at the NRA's conference was Ronald Reagan. He supported Brady background checks. Seventy-four percent of the NRA's membership support our efforts to Finish the Job and expand lifesaving Brady background checks to make all of us safer. In all the time Trump spends talking today, I would suggest he take a moment to listen, too."
