NORTH CAROLINA PAC AUCTIONS OFF RIFLE & HILLARY CLINTON TARGET PRACTICE KIT
Auction follows Trump campaign's repeated calls for assassination of political opponents
WASHINGTON - A North Carolina-based political action committee, Grass Roots NC, is auctioning off a Hillary Clinton target practice kit, complete with an AR-15 rifle, 1,000 rounds of ammunition, and a portrait of Hillary Clinton. Proceeds will go to the PAC's victory fund.
The PAC, which has opposed background checks so terrorists, domestic abusers, and felons can buy guns, said on its web page "Of course, we won't tell you what to do with the photo, but when we ran a picture of Hillary on the front of our newsletter, we heard it was very popular at the range."
The auction follows repeated calls and insinuations from Donald Trump's presidential campaign for the assassination of his political opponents:
History shows this kind of violent, graphic rhetoric can and has preceded actual violence. Not long before a gunman opened fire on Gabby Giffords and a crowd of constituents in 2011, Sarah Palin launched a particularly militant campaign encouraging gun advocates to “take a stand,” featuring a map with Giffords’ district in rifle crosshairs.
Earlier this year, the Arizona Republican Party advertised a "Wanted" poster targeting John McCain's general election challenger, Ann Kirkpatrick, featuring bullet holes over her chest.
Dan Gross, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, said, "This raffle is not only disgusting and fundamentally un-American - it's downright dangerous. It's also a disturbing lesson in cause and effect. We've seen before how similarly violent rhetoric can turn deadly. This organization is knowingly playing with fire, and the consequences are very real.
"If you build your presidential campaign on repeatedly suggesting supporters assassinate your opponent, as Donald Trump has, you are ultimately responsible for the action they take."
