GUN VIOLENCE HAS KILLED MORE AMERICANS THIS MORNING THAN FOREIGN TERRORISTS HAVE IN A DECADE
Dan Gross: "We must stop those actually pulling the trigger."
Brady Campaign key gun violence statistics
WASHINGTON - More Americans have already been shot and killed in this country today, January 30, than have died at the hands of foreign terrorists on US soil in the past fifteen years. But instead of taking executive action to actually stop the violence and make America safer, Donald Trump is targeting Muslim immigrants and refugees, and building a wall between the US and Mexico. Brady Campaign president Dan Gross issued the following statement.
"Donald Trump's recent executive orders have nothing to do with safety. Instead of building walls and unconstitutionally banning entry to the U.S. of individuals based on their national origin and religious beliefs, and thereby spreading fear, hatred and violence, the President should focus his attention on solutions that actually stop those pulling the trigger. Thirty-six thousand people died from gunfire in America in 2015 -- thousands at the hands of domestic abusers, felons, fugitives, and other dangerous people who shouldn't have access to guns. Donald Trump should expand Brady background checks to stop sales of guns online and at gun shows to such people. He should target people who actually pose a real threat to public safety instead of closing our borders to innocent people who are coming here to contribute to our society."
In addition to expanding Brady background checks, the President could fully fund ATF and direct it to immediately reform or shut down the 5 percent of gun dealers who supply 90 percent of crime guns in this country. These actions would actually make our country safer and stop the flood of illegal guns from “bad apple” dealers who illegally and irresponsibly supply the crime gun market in our country, killing thousands of Americans each year.
