BRADY CENTER'S JONATHAN LOWY SELECTED BY LAWDRAGON AS ONE OF NATION'S TOP LAWYERS
WASHINGTON - Jonathan Lowy, Director of the Brady Center's Legal Action Project, was recently selected as one of the 500 leading lawyers in America by Lawdragon Magazine. The distinction belongs to only the very best in America's legal industry. Mr. Lowy has been named to the list every year since 2012.
In recognizing Mr. Lowy and his work, Lawdragon says,"[Lowy] has spent much of his legal career on the front lines and as a master strategist in the battle to hold politicians, gun manufacturers, sellers and owners accountable for gun safety and, when appropriate, the deaths and maimings caused by firearms." Mr. Lowy has won important, precedent-setting victories on behalf of gun violence victims and sensible gun laws in courts across the country, including obtaining a $2.5 million settlement against a gun manufacturer and dealer on behalf of victims of the DC-area snipers, and victories in the Supreme Courts of Alaska, Kansas, and Missouri, appeals courts in California, Colorado, Indiana, and New York, and trial courts in Florida, Pennsylvania, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin. Mr. Lowy is arguing before the Supreme Court of Indiana on August 31 on behalf of police officer Dwayne Runnels in a lawsuit against the gun dealer that sold a gun used to shoot him.
"It's the greatest privilege and inspiration to work for children, police officers, moms and dads who channel their personal tragedies to fight for an America free from gun violence, and to work with the smartest and most dedicated legal team a lawyer could dream of," said Mr. Lowy. "Working with the vast majority of Americans who have had enough of gun violence, we can reform dangerous gun industry practices and dangerous gun laws to protect Americans' most important right -- the right to live in safety."
For more than two decades and largely under Lowy's leadership, The Legal Action Project of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence has worked through the courts to reform dangerous and reckless gun industry practices that give dangerous people access to guns.
