Statement from Jonathan Lowy, Director, Legal Action Project, Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence

“A dangerous man was allowed to carry a loaded gun virtually anywhere, and he ultimately murdered 17-year-old Jordan Davis. For too long, Florida's politicians have been doing the bidding of the corporate gun lobby at the expense of the public's safety. We are thankful that Jordan's killer was convicted, but lawmakers from Tallahassee to Washington, D.C., everywhere in between, and throughout the country must take responsible actions to prevent future tragedies that are the result of the deadly combination of weak concealed carry laws and overexpansion of the Castle Doctrine. One of the most effective ways to make this nation safer from dangerous people is for Congress to finish the job and require background checks on all gun sales, including online and at gun shows. Ultimately, Jordan Davis’ family and the American people deserve and demand better."

The mission of the Brady organization is to create a safer America that will lead to a dramatic reduction in gun deaths and injuries. For more insight on gun violence prevention, follow us on Facebook at the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Twitter @BradyBuzz.
