BRADY CAMPAIGN CALLS OUT ABBOTT: IT'S NEVER JUST A JOKE
WASHINGTON - Brady Campaign president Dan Gross issued the following statement after Texas governor Greg Abbott joked about shooting reporters.
"This joke was dangerous and out of line. Because it's never just a joke to some. It's never just rhetoric. Words matter. President Trump encouraged violence as a candidate on the trail, and his supporters started throwing punches. Rep-elect Gianforte once joked about hurting journalists, then this week followed it through with a bodyslam that sent a Guardian reporter to the hospital. Words matter. In a state and country where dangerous people can still so easily buy guns without a background check, leaders of every political stripe should be careful not to green light violence on their behalf."
The mission of the Brady organization and its Million Mom March is to create a safer America by cutting gun deaths in half by 2025. For more insight on gun violence prevention, follow us on Facebook and Twitter @BradyBuzz.
About Us: The Brady Campaign and Center, united with the Million Mom March, is a national network of over 90 grassroots chapter affiliates mobilized to prevent gun violence at the community level.
