BRADY CAMPAIGN APPLAUDS TRUMP ADMINISTRATION FOR COMING OUT IN SUPPORT OF EXPANDED BRADY BACKGROUND CHECKS
President Trump's FBI director made the announcement as two of the nation's largest gun violence prevention groups kicked off a joint policy summit yesterday
WASHINGTON - Brady Campaign president Dan Gross issued the following statement applauding the Trump Administration for coming out in support of expanding Brady background checks. President Trump's FBI director confirmed support for the policy yesterday on Capitol Hill, as two of the nation's largest gun violence prevention organizations kicked off a joint policy summit. Expanding Brady background checks to all gun sales is the Brady Campaign's top legislative priority, since the organization first passed the Brady Law in 1993.
Gross said, "We applaud the Trump Administration for voicing its support for expanding Brady background checks in such a public manner. It's good to hear the President's FBI director, speaking on behalf of the Administration, understands Brady background checks save lives by keeping guns out of the hands of the people we ALL agree shouldn't have them. The Brady Campaign is now calling on the Administration to follow their words with action and Finish the Job this organization started with Ronald Reagan more than 20 years ago. Ninety-three percent of Americans stand behind Brady and the Trump Administration on this one, and we're ready to hold them accountable and see that they walk the walk."
Trump's FBI director confirmed support for expanded background checks yesterday during an official, televised hearing on Capitol Hill after being asked about the policy by Senator Richard Blumenthal.
The Administration's remarks come as the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Americans for Responsible Solutions are teaming up for a first-of-its-kind policy summit, A Nation United for a Safer Future, yesterday and today.
