Brady Campaign Applauds New Version of Thompson-King Bipartisan Expanded Background Check Bill
Today, Representatives Mike Thompson (D-CA) and Peter King (R-NY) introduced the Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act of 2017, which will expand Brady background checks to cover all commercial firearm sales including those sold at gun shows, over the Internet at sites like ArmsList.com and in classified ads.
Brady Co-President Kris Brown officially threw Brady's support behind the new version of the bill saying, "The Brady Campaign and its chapters played a critical role in helping craft this bill, urge Members of Congress to sign on as cosponsors and support passage. This bill will close a loophole in the law that allows one in five guns to be sold without a background check. It represents an important step in the right direction as we work toward stemming the epidemic of gun violence in America."
The mission of the Brady organization and its Million Mom March is to create a safer America by cutting gun deaths in half by 2025. For more insight on gun violence prevention, follow us on Facebook and Twitter @BradyBuzz.
