Nick and Amanda Wilcox honored by Brady Campaign at National Summit

WASHINGTON — During the organization’s annual National Summit, Brady Campaign President Dan Gross recognized Nevada County activists Nick and Amanda Wilcox for their decade of tireless work fighting gun violence in California. In front of hundreds Gross presented Nick and Amanda with the National Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence Organizers Award for Excellence in Advocacy.

“Nick and Amanda are Brady,” said Dan Gross. “When Nick and Amanda lost their daughter Laura to a tragic act of gun violence in 2001 they had every right to give in to their grief and to give up. Instead they took action! Driven by the vision of a safer California and preventing tragedies like theirs, they have personally helped shepherd 45 gun safety bills into law. Californians everywhere are safer because of Amanda and Nick's work. Sarah & Jim Brady used to say that beating the gun lobby was like David vs. Goliath and Amanda and Nick Wilcox provide powerful proof that all the money, power and influence of the corporate gun lobby is no match for Brady's committed activists, especially when those activists are Nick and Amanda Wilcox. I can honestly say that people are alive today in California who would not be were it not for Nick & Amanda's work. They are an inspiration to all of us at Brady and to so many more across this nation and we, as an organization, are so grateful for everything they've done. They are a true dynamic duo and serve as a shining example of the change each of us has the potential to create."

Amanda Wilcox says the couple is most proud of being instrumental in the passage of AB 809 (long gun record retention) and AB 1014 (gun violence restraining order).

As the nation's largest, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence, the Brady Campaign, with its dedicated network of California Chapters, works to enact and enforce sensible gun laws, regulations and public policies. The Brady Campaign is devoted to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school, at work, and in our communities.
