Brady Campaign Endorses Dan Seals for U.S. House

Oct 20, 2010

Washington, D.C. – The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and its Illinois Million Mom March Chapters today endorsed Dan Seals for election to Congress from Illinois’ 10th Congressional District.

“Dan Seals believes in working hard to make a better life for others, and that includes supporting sensible gun laws that help keep families in the 10th Congressional District, and across the nation, safe from gun violence.” said Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign. “Dan grew up in Chicago and understands how devastating gun violence can be to a community.  I know he’ll be a terrific member of Congress.”

The Brady Campaign is urging candidates for public office to support specific steps to help make American communities safer, such as:

 * Requiring Brady criminal background checks on all gun sales, including at gun shows;

 * Strengthening law enforcement’s efforts to disrupt the illegal gun market, by providing tools to crack down on corrupt gun dealers and stop the large-volume gun sales that supply gun traffickers; and,

 * Restricting civilian access to military-style assault weapons.

The Brady Campaign is the nation's largest citizens' lobby to prevent gun violence. We represent the voice of the overwhelming majority of Americans who are tired of living with the constant tragedy of gun violence and are in favor of strong laws and policies that will save lives. We are the light that exposes politicians who are putting the American people at risk, empowering the American people to hold them accountable for decisions and actions that undermine public safety.

We are driven by the focused vision of a nation where all Americans are safe at home, at work, at school, and in our communities.
