Washington, D.C. - Sarah Brady, honorary Chair of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, is urging Illinois voters to reject Gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady because of his “awful” positions on gun laws and vote for Pat Quinn for Governor.
Brady, the candidate, opposes legislation limiting civilian access to military-style semiautomatic weapons and prohibiting guns near schools. A bill to prohibit the purchase of assault weapons was blocked by the gun lobby in the Illinois state legislature this year.
Sarah Brady’s telephone message to Illinois voters begins to be distributed today, with an initial scope of 65,000 calls, paid for by the Brady PAC Illinois. “My husband, JIM Brady, is from Illinois,” Sarah Brady says. “We’ve voted Republican many times, but we think BILL Brady’s gun policies are awful.”

Bullets ended the lives of 304 young people (teenage and under) in Illinois in 2006 and 2007, the last years for which full figures are available, according to the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence (http://www.ichv.org/facts-about-gun-violence/general-facts-about-gun-violence/).

The Brady Campaign is the nation's largest citizens' lobby to prevent gun violence. We represent the voice of the overwhelming majority of Americans who are tired of living with the constant tragedy of gun violence and are in favor of strong laws and policies that will save lives. We are the light that exposes politicians who are putting the American people at risk, empowering the American people to hold them accountable for decisions and actions that undermine public safety.
We are driven by the focused vision of a nation where all Americans are safe at home, at work, at school, and in our communities.
