Washington, D.C. - Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, issued the following statement about Senator Kirsten Gillibrand earning an F rating from the National Rifle Association:
“It has been reported that the NRA intends to award Senator Kirsten Gillibrand with a grade of F for voting ‘against them 100 percent of the time.’ This is one failing grade that the Senator should be proud to receive, and that New Yorkers should be happy she has earned.
“Over the last two years, the NRA has had an ongoing legislative effort to force guns into every corner of our society. On every one of their bills, Senator Gillibrand stood up to the gun lobby and voted no.
“Not just content to stand up to the NRA’s extremist agenda, Senator Gillibrand authored one of the most comprehensive bills aimed at stopping illegal gun trafficking ever offered in the U.S. Congress. The Senator has also cosponsored a bill that seeks to prohibit terrorists from purchasing guns. The NRA even opposes this common-sense measure.
“Senator Gillibrand should wear her ‘F’ grade from the NRA as a badge of honor as she continues to do what she can to make New Yorkers safer by protecting them from gun violence and resisting extremist agendas. The Brady Campaign looks forward to working with Senator Gillibrand for many years to come.”

The Brady Campaign is the nation's largest citizens' lobby to prevent gun violence. We represent the voice of the overwhelming majority of Americans who are tired of living with the constant tragedy of gun violence and are in favor of strong laws and policies that will save lives. We are the light that exposes politicians who are putting the American people at risk, empowering the American people to hold them accountable for decisions and actions that undermine public safety.
We are driven by the focused vision of a nation where all Americans are safe at home, at work, at school, and in our communities.
