Washington, DC – This week, the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence honored Carole Stiller, President of the New Jersey Million Mom March Chapters, with the Brady Center Advocate Award. The award is given to an outstanding and dedicated gun violence prevention activist from the Tri-State (NJ, NY, CT) area at an annual Brady event in New York City.
Ms. Stiller’s first foray into the gun violence prevention movement was in 2000 when she attended the Million Mom March in Washington, DC. On her return, she joined the newly formed Million Mom March Chapter of Mercer County, and has been an outspoken advocate for sensible gun laws since then. In 2002, she became the president of her local Chapter, and soon after that president of all the New Jersey Million Mom March Chapters. She has worked tirelessly to get gun violence prevention legislation passed in New Jersey, including most recently the One-Handgun-A-Month Bill, as well as nationally.
“Carole’s work to bring sensible gun laws to New Jersey and the nation has been outstanding,” said Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. “She has made New Jersey one of the Million Mom March Chapters’ strongest states. I have great admiration, appreciation, and gratitude for her many years of work.”
Trenton Mayor Doug Palmer presented Stiller with her award on October 6. The Brady Center also honored Newark Mayor Cory Booker and slain New York Police Department Detective Russel Timoshenko at the same event.
