Was Gov. Scott right to reject Tampa's request to ban concealed weapons outside the Republican National Convention?
Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn asked the governor for an exemption to the state law that preempts local governments from regulating firearms. Exemptions are allowed at "places where a firearm creates an unnecessary threat of injury and harm to innocent bystanders," such as the RNC, in the mayor's view. The governor said he was confident law enforcement will fully protect visitors "without the need to resort to sweeping infringements on our most
sacred
constitutional
traditions."

Bill would mandate quick reporting of stolen guns
Gun owners would have to report stolen or missing firearms to authorities within 48 hours of discovering them missing under a bill approved by the state Senate.
The bill by Sen. Mark DeSaulnier, a Democrat from Concord, is backed by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and the California Police Chiefs Association.
SB1366 passed Monday on a 23-14 vote and goes to the Assembly.
Republican lawmakers say the bill is unrealistic for gun owners who keep firearms in remote hunting cabins or blinds, or who are preoccupied after being burglarized.
They also say the requirement might deter gun owners

New Jersey Gives Blind Man His Guns Back
A judge has ruled that the blind New Jersey man who has been fighting for his right to bear arms will get his guns back. Last year, the state had confiscated the weapons of Steven Holper and pushed to remove his gun rights, but a judge decided that the decision goes against a constitutional right to bear arms. "I've handled guns for many years -- being sighted and being blind -- and I've never had a problem," Hopler told CBS. Err, except for that time Hopler shot himself in the leg.
So justice is blind, but still

Online gun business based in Pleasant Hill condo raises concerns
Just weeks after Pinole banned home gun sales, news that an online firearms business is operating from a Pleasant Hill condominium has gun control advocates calling for city leaders here to take similar action.
"It creates a public safety issue for the neighborhood, and that's why Pinole is against it and that's why we're against it," said Karen Arntzen, a Pleasant Hill resident and a member of the Contra Costa Chapter of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
In October, the city approved Rico Tedjakusuma's request for a home occupation permit for an office for LNC Arms,

Rand Paul Backs Gun Campaign Featuring Image Of Rifle Pointing At Obama's Head
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is lending his name and political clout to a gun group's email campaign that features an image of a rifle pointed at the head of President Barack Obama.
The effort is being spearheaded by the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR), a Virginia-based 501c(4) that bills itself as the "fastest growing gun rights group in America." NAGR also touts its efforts against the U.N. Small Arms Treaty and for the derailment of H.R.45, both foundations for conspiracy theories about the government's supposed plan to confiscate guns from U.S. citizens.

Pistol-Packing Grandma Helps NRA Push State Pro-Gun Laws
The woman responsible for many of the nation's most permissive gun laws is a 4-foot-11, 73-year-old grandmother who carries a Smith & Wesson .38 Special with a laser sight in her purse.
Marion Hammer, top lobbyist for the National Rifle Association in Florida, translates personal experiences into policies replicated in statehouses around the country. Among them was the Stand Your Ground law allowing deadly force in self-defense, which generated nationwide controversy after the Feb. 26 shooting of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed Florida teenager. She also championed a model concealed-carry law that the NRA said last year had

Trayvon Martin gun range targets sold online
An unidentified entrepreneur admits he is trying to profit off Trayvon Martin's death by selling gun range targets featuring the teen who's death has sparked a nationwide controversy.
Although Martin's face does not appear on the paper targets, they feature a hoodie with crosshairs aimed at the chest. A bag of Skittles is tucked in the pocket and a hand is holding a can resembling iced tea.

House votes to block Obama rules cracking down on border-state gun dealers
The House voted today to block President Obama's requirement that border-state gun dealers must alert federal law enforcement about multiple sales of rifles.
The 247-163 vote in the Republican-dominated House fell mostly along party lines, though 23 Democrats, including Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, joined 224 Republicans favoring the legislation and eight Republicans joined 155 Democrats opposing it.
The measure faces an uncertain fate in the less-gun-friendly Senate. And Obama has threatened to veto the overall $51 billion spending bill, citing among his reasons the House language on the rifle rule.
Nevertheless, gun-state Republicans hailed the House vote.

Oklahoma senators approve open-carry gun bill
A bill to allow Oklahomans with a concealed-carry permit to openly carry their handguns is headed to the governor, who is expected to sign the legislation that passed the state Senate on Thursday.
The bill, approved by a 33-10 vote, would allow those with a concealed-carry handgun permit to openly carry their firearms in holsters from November 1. Those without such permits could obtain a gun permit and openly carry a firearm if they meet legal criteria, pass a background check and undergo firearms training.
Republican Governor Mary Fallin, a member of the National Rifle Association, has said
