Statement from Dan Gross, President, Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence

“Last year my brother Matthew and I were honored to be in the House gallery, together with dozens more gun victims and survivors, as President Obama culminated his State of the Union Address with a rousing call for sensible gun reforms. He said the American public deserves a vote and last year we came very close to the Senate passing landmark legislation to expand Brady Background Checks to all gun show and online sales – a bill that would have undoubtedly saved lives.

"Since last year’s speech, the Brady Campaign has made it clear that we will continue to fight on behalf of the American public until we ‘Finish the Job’ and expand Brady Background Checks to all gun sales, including the thousands of sales every day online and at gun shows.

"Over the last year we have doubled down on our state efforts and successfully passed meaningful laws in eight states, with strong plans to continue that momentum this year. And we are ramping up our efforts around solutions that have nothing to do with politics, and everything to do with saving lives – like our proven public health and safety campaigns about responsible gun ownership and responsible parenting.

"We were pleased to see the President reaffirm his administration’s commitment to the gun violence issue last night, and we look forward to working with him across all of these fronts to achieve every decent American’s goal to make this the safer nation we all want and deserve.”
