Last week, the Brady Center released its report on the impact of military-style semi-automatic assault weapons on American families and law enforcement after Congress and the President allowed the federal Assault Weapons Ban to expire.

Criticism and political discourse is the foundation of intellectual development. It is here that your ideas will be challenged and either you'll be solidified in them or open your mind to other alternatives. I came here to debate policy as I agree that violence needs to be detered but not at the expense of the liberty of the legal citizens. I wish to discuss the issue in a civil manner if you wish.

We have to find common ground that will satisfy both sides.

Stepped up enforcement and punishment for non-compliance can be agreed upon. Let's start there.

Um, you misunderstand the First Amendment just as badly as the Second. The First IS ALL ABOUT EMPOWERING CRITICISM. If you don't like criticism, you should move out of the US. Then you won't have to deal with the Second, either.

You cannot "reserve" the internet for spreading your lies. There are 75 million LAW-ABIDING gun owners in the US that you bastardize regularly, only leading us one day closer to a dictatorship. You must stop... unless that is your goal?

To those of you who come here to criticize or make fun of the Brady Campaign:

It's unwelcome and your posts will be deleted. There are plenty of other places on the web to have those discussions.

This community is reserved for activists who want to discuss gun violence prevention. (Specifically in ways that don't involve gun violence)

Thanks for respecting our 1st amendment rights.

If you want wore accountability, Karen, you need to write your representatives and make your voice heard. Here in MI, a minor who lawfully gains access to a gun owner's firearm makes the owner liable. There are two categories of responsibility in the 13 year old's death: his parents and the relative. The relative because they did not store it properly, and the parents for not teaching their kid proper firearms safety. Any parent who doesn't teach their child or send them to a class is essentially preparing their child for failure if they ever come across a firearm. No one is saying you have to be a gun nut to take one of these classes or learn, but it's important to teach your kids what they're supposed to do if they find one. The education may save their life because firearms are not going away.

Information

Website:
Company Overview:
The Brady Campaign and its dedicated network of Million Mom March Chapters, is the nation's largest, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence. We are devoted to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school, at work, and in our communities.
Mission:
We believe it is too easy for dangerous people to obtain dangerous weapons. There are only a few gun control laws on the books, and even those loopholes. This leads to senseless gun violence affecting tens of thousands.

But we CAN do something about it. We should make it harder for convicted felons, the dangerously mentally ill, and others like them to get the guns in the first place.

We can do this by passing effective laws that make sense: requiring Brady criminal background checks on all gun sales; restricting access to military-style assault weapons; and strengthening law enforcement’s efforts to stop the illegal gun market, like limiting the number of guns that can be bought at one time.

Thousands upon thousands of people will continue to die and be injured needlessly each year without stronger, sensible gun laws. The Brady Campaign fights for sensible gun laws to protect you, your family, and your community.
