The Brady Center and The Brady Campaign are fiscally responsible and accountable to our donors and members across the country who support our efforts to keep guns out of dangerous hands. The Center and Campaign work in numerous coordinated but different ways, and your donation to either organization helps us prevent gun violence by changing culture, changing laws, and changing the gun industry.

Are donations made to The Brady Center and Campaign tax-deductible?

The Brady Center, a 501(c)3 organization, develops and implements public health and safety programs, such as End Family Fire, our campaign to reduce unintentional gun deaths and injuries in the home. It also works through the court system to hold irresponsible gun sellers and owners legally accountable (link to Success Stories web page?). These activities do not seek to advocate for any specific political person or policy measure, hence donations to The Brady Center are tax deductible.

The Brady Campaign, a 501(c)4 organization, works to pass, enforce, and protect sensible gun laws and public policy at the federal, state and local levels. We do this by engaging and activating the American public, increasing public awareness of gun violence, and electing officials who support common sense gun laws. These activities are critically important to reducing gun violence, but due to their political nature, donations to The Brady Campaign are not tax deductible.

Memorial Giving Questions

Can I make a donation in honor or memory of someone?

Yes, you can celebrate the life of a friend or loved one by making a donation to The Brady Campaign or The Brady Center. When you click on the red DONATE button, you will be given the option to check a box that says “I’d like to make this contribution in honor or memory of someone,” found underneath the suggested donation amounts. You will be able to fill in that person’s name, and confirm that you are donating either in honor, or memory of that person.

Is the honoree/family notified of my donation amount?

No. Once your gift is received, Brady will promptly send a letter to the honoree or family acknowledging your gift. The amount of money donated through memorial or honor donations is kept confidential.

How long does it take to receive an acknowledgment card?

Please allow up to two weeks for a paper card to be created and delivered by USPS. E-Cards are typically sent within 24 hours.

Planned Giving Questions

Can I support the Brady Center or Brady Campaign through my estate?

Yes. For many supporters, remembering the Brady Center or Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence in your estate is a powerful way to leave your legacy in the fight for gun violence prevention. In doing so, you will contribute to support Brady's mission, while preserving and enjoying assets you might need during your lifetime. Plus, a bequest to Brady Center is tax-deductible.

Monthly Giving Questions

Can I make monthly, automatic donations to the Brady Center or Campaign?

Yes! When you pledge to give a specific monthly donation by credit or debit card. Or by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)— in an amount you are comfortable with — you join a group of committed supporters helping Brady prevent gun violence through our political advocacy, public safety campaigns, and legal action. You can also ask your employer if they offer charitable designations that can be drawn from each paycheck.

Monthly giving is easy! Simply check the box on our DONATE page that says “Make this contribution: Monthly” and your selected gift amount will be repeated every month until you request to discontinue it.

Why should I donate monthly?

Monthly giving to The Brady Center or Campaign is simply the best investment that you can make in preventing gun violence and helping us create the safer America we want and deserve. Your monthly support helps us promote essential public safety campaigns like End Family Fire, to reduce the tragically high rates of gun suicides and unintentional gun deaths in the home; to push our lawmakers to expand background checks for all gun purchases to keep guns out of dangerous hands; and to fight through the legal system to hold irresponsible gun dealers accountable.

Are there other ways to donate to Brady?

You can choose from a variety of ways to give, based on your individual financial and practical considerations. These range from donor advised funds to stock transfers and matching gifts, through PayPal or wire transfer, even through your Amazon purchases! Can I crowd fundraise for Brady?

Absolutely! We suggest you use either CrowdRise or FaceBook. CrowdRise allows you to customize your page to encourage greater participation. You can even challenge your friends to see who raises more money. It’s a great way to redirect the generosity of your family, co-workers, and friends when you truly have everything.
