Position Summary

The Policy Intern will play a key role assisting the Policy department in all aspects of federal and state policy activities, including preparing materials for legislative meetings; researching and tracking state and federal statutes, regulations and bills; preparing written memoranda and analysis of bills, congressional reports, and journal articles; and supporting the team through various administrative activities. The internship provides exceptional "hands on" experience in which an individual with strong interest in advocacy can review cutting edge legislation and help review and analyze key data points to help the policy team shape its agenda. The intern will also research key elements of the gun violence issue, and learn how to package that information into deliverables for Brady to communicate its advocacy and policy goals to the media and public at large. This includes organizing information and developing materials to be used for internal and external audiences, like creating policy one-pagers, fact sheets, talking points and other messaging documents.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintaining key voting records and positions of elected leaders related to GVP issues
  • Management of key legislative database
  • Research key elements of the gun violence issue
  • Manage and update policy facts; prepare bill summaries and fact sheets on legislation
  • Assist in the drafting of talking points, fact sheets and other documents for policy makers
  • Assist members of policy team as necessary
  • Interact with staff across departments


  • Graduate Students, particularly those focused on law and/or public policy
  • Very strong writer
  • Prior legislative and/or advocacy experience a plus
  • Flexible to changing work tasks/requirements
  • Minimum of 25 hours per week required (full-time encouraged)

  • College credit can be awarded

Representing millions of supporters and activists, Brady’s goal is to cut gun deaths in half by 2025 through sustained, impact-driven campaigns such as "Finish the Job" to expand Brady background checks to all gun sales, "Stop Bad Apple Gun Dealers" to shut down the small number of gun dealers that sell almost all crime guns, "The ASK Campaign" to educate parents about the risks of guns in the home, and "The War on PLCAA" to overturn or repeal the evil law that provides the gun industry protection from liability that no other industry in the nation enjoys.
