Brady Center's Gun Industry Watch Profiles the Dangers and Crimes of Rogue Gun Dealers
Triangle of Death

It's a vicious triangle of death.

The NRA buys off Members of Congress. Congress in turn passes laws that protect corrupt gun dealers.

Those gun dealers are allowed to flood our communities with illegal guns without scrutiny or fear of repercussion.

Then the gun dealers donate to the NRA ... to buy off Congress.

The tragic results: fellow citizens, children and police officers are dying every day from illegal guns.

We must break this triangle of death.

Thanks to your help, Congress is feeling the heat of its complicity in this cycle. And we've been shining a spotlight on the NRA's extremism. Now we are tackling the third arm of this monster -- the complacent gun industry and the corrupt gun dealers who profit from selling guns to criminals -- with our new project, Gun Industry Watch and the first two issues of its investigative series "Profile of a Rogue Dealer."

Rogue gun dealers like Trader Sports, a notorious San Leandro, California gun dealer that in 2005 sold 447 guns traced to crime, making it the second largest supplier of crime guns of any retailer in America. Trader Sports is so bad that it had trace requests amounting to approximately 12% of its sales figures from 2003 through 2005 -- meaning an average of one of every eight guns sold by Trader Sports was recovered in crime.

The Trader Sports exposé entitled, Trading in Death, highlighted these decades of illegal violations by Trader Sports. The report includes detailed information on Trader Sports' record as one of the "worst of the worst" dealers in the nation, with its guns being traced to crimes an average of more than once every day of the year.

You can read about another one of the worst gun dealers in America -- NRA Board Member Sandy Abrams -- in the report Death Valley. Abrams' shop, Valley Gun, is one of the leading suppliers of crime guns in America, ranking 37th out of nearly 80,000 federally-licensed gun dealers nationwide in total crime guns traced to their stores. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives has documented over 900 violations of federal law at Valley Gun, including illegal gun sales.

And even with all of his many legal violations, the NRA has come to Sandy Abrams' defense, providing him with an attorney to help him fight the ATF and continue selling guns while re-electing him to its Board.

The report on Valley Gun also explains how Abrams is attempting to evade revocation of his shop's firearms license, by transferring the inventory of Valley Gun to his "personal collection" and allowing him to sell them as an individual! And since he is selling from his "personal collection," a Brady background check is not required and thousands more guns will be on our streets.

Believe it or not, the Bush Administration filed legal briefs in a lawsuit brought by Abrams, stating that Abrams would be permitted to sell Valley Gun's former inventory as his "personal collection" despite revocation of his shop's license.

Your can download each of the issues of "Profile Of A Rogue Gun Dealer" from the Gun Industry Watch website.
