Brady Campaign Statement on Senate Judiciary Committee Passage of Assault Weapons Ban

Mar 14, 2013

Washington, DC – The following is a statement released today by Dan Gross, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence:

“Today’s committee actions are a testament to the dedication and determination of Senator Feinstein, and she should be commended.  We thank Senator Feinstein for her continued leadership on this issue.  This is another key step in the fight to pass comprehensive, common sense legislation to reduce gun violence.  Together with universal background checks and other pieces of legislation passed by the Judiciary Committee, this bill will help make this the safer nation we all want and deserve.

We will now turn our attention and our efforts to the full Senate, where we will hold our leaders accountable for their actions there.  The American people overwhelmingly support background checks and all of the legislative actions we hope the Senate will pass.”

The Brady Campaign is the nation's largest citizens' lobby to prevent gun violence. We represent the voice of the overwhelming majority of Americans who are tired of living with the constant tragedy of gun violence and are in favor of strong laws and policies that will save lives. We are the light that exposes politicians who are putting the American people at risk, empowering the American people to hold them accountable for decisions and actions that undermine public safety.

We are driven by the focused vision of a nation where all Americans are safe at home, at work, at school, and in our communities.
