Washington, DC – The following is a statement released today by Dan Gross, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence:"The announcement by Senator Reid is welcome news, and we thank him for his leadership. Expanding background checks will have an immediate and real impact on gun violence, and we are pleased that is in the base bill. Our members and Americans across the country continue to call for a vote on all provisions passed by the Judiciary Committee, and we look forward to seeing those votes after the congressional recess. Senator Reid's announcement is a tremendous step, and we recognize there is still a tough road ahead. Over the congressional recess, we will be mobilizing the American public to contact their members, attend district events, and organize our chapters to get ready for the full Senate debate.”
The Brady Campaign is the nation's largest citizens' lobby to prevent gun violence. We represent the voice of the overwhelming majority of Americans who are tired of living with the constant tragedy of gun violence and are in favor of strong laws and policies that will save lives. We are the light that exposes politicians who are putting the American people at risk, empowering the American people to hold them accountable for decisions and actions that undermine public safety.
We are driven by the focused vision of a nation where all Americans are safe at home, at work, at school, and in our communities.
