When might he have stopped being a "law-abiding gun owner"?
Was it before or after he was charged with beating his fiancee?
In today's Fort Worth Star-Telegram:
Radio talk-show host Russ Martin was off the air again Tuesday afternoon, a day after being charged with beating his fiancee and brandishing a handgun during an argument last week.
"It’s ongoing, so we’re keeping him off the air," said David Henry, general manager for KLLI/105.3 FM. Henry declined to comment further.
The station played The Best of the Russ Martin Show on Monday and Tuesday.

His concealed carry permit has reportedly been suspended, thank goodness.

Today's Montgomery Advertiser talks about the problem of kids and guns in America:
... Sadly, in this nation such gun injuries of young people are far from rare. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, a child under 10 is killed or disabled every other day by a gunshot. The academy claims that guns can be found in 40 percent of the homes in the nation.
The academy recommends that the best way to prevent gun deaths involving children is to completely remove guns from homes. But in Alabama, which has a strong hunting and gun ownership culture, that is not likely to happen in a large percentage of homes. So it is very important that those adults who choose to keep guns in the home do so in a safe manner, especially if children are ever going to be present.

A crushingly sad loss, at the hands of a man who reportedly "has no criminal history."
From WESH NBC-2 (Orlando):
A pregnant woman who suffered a gunshot wound died Tuesday morning.Â
Enio Abreu, 39, said he accidentally shot himself in the hand and his pregnant wife, Yailen Abreu, 22, in the abdomen at their home on Nell Drive in the Isle Pines subdivision.
Neighbor Denise Case said the subdivision is normally very peaceful.
Orange County sheriff's deputies said the man claimed he was cleaning the gun on Monday night when it accidentally fired.Â
"They were cleaning the guns, apparently the wife was also interested in guns," Orange County sheriff’s spokesman Carlos Padilla said. "Somewhere along the line he accidentally fired the gun which struck his wife who was six months pregnant. He called 911 immediately, tried to render aid. The fire department and the paramedics got there and she was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead."

Before families decide to keep guns at home, they should take into account all the risks. Â As accounts like these show, being a "law-abiding gun owner" often isn't enough to avoid senseless tragedy.

No, this is not a headline from The Onion.
It is actual news from the Great Falls Tribune (Montana):
A "quick draw" competition between friends sent one man to the hospital Sunday night after his opponent forgot that his gun was loaded, according to criminal charges filed Monday.
Henry Haviland, 23, was in serious but stable condition at Benefis Healthcare on Monday evening.
Zachary Enloe, 20, was in jail on a felony charge of criminal endangerment.
Police responded to a call at about 9 p.m. Sunday from an apartment at 4120 3rd Ave. S. The caller said he had accidentally shot his friend. When officers arrived, they found Haviland lying in the alley behind the apartment with a gunshot wound to his face.
In the charge filed against Enloe in Cascade County District Court, prosecutors gave their account of what they believe led up to the shooting.
Enloe was visiting Haviland on Sunday afternoon at the apartment where Haviland's girlfriend lives. Both men had handguns; Enloe was armed with a 9mm pistol and Haviland's was a .45 caliber. The two were drawing the unloaded weapons and "dry-firing" at each other, prosecutors charge.
At about 7 p.m., Haviland and his girlfriend went to Wal-Mart, and Enloe left the apartment separately, according to the charges.
Around 9 p.m., the three met up at the apartment again. Enloe sat in the living room, while Haviland stood in the same room and dry-fired his unloaded gun into the fireplace. Haviland then pointed the gun at Enloe and pulled the trigger, according to court documents.
Prosecutors say Enloe jumped out of his chair, pulled his own gun from a holster, and shot Haviland in the jaw.
Enloe had forgotten that he loaded the gun since the two had last pretended to shoot each other, prosecutors said. Haviland made his way outside, where he collapsed in the alley, and Enloe called 9-1-1.

Lucky for all of us, they were apparently "law-abiding gun owners." Otherwise we might have cause for concern.
Oh, right....

Another example of Brady background checks at work, this time in Pennsylvania.
Per the AP:
NORRISTOWN, Pa. - Authorities say former NBA player Aaron McKie tried to buy two guns despite being under a protection-from-abuse order.
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman says McKie failed to disclose the protection order when he applied to buy the guns in April.
She says McKie never got the guns because of the order. It was filed in Delaware County last year and is in effect until September.
