David Bohnett Foundation
Hispanic/Latino Outreach Fellowship Announcement

As the nation’s largest national, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence, the Brady Campaign and the Brady Center are dedicated to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school, at work, and in their communities.

In response to the disproportionate effects of gun violence in Hispanic/Latino communities, the Brady Center has launched its Hispanic/Latino Outreach Initiative in 2006.  The Center is expanding its current outreach to raise awareness and educate communities across the country about the epidemic of gun violence in this country and solutions to preventing and reducing its toll.  In addition to our current gun violence prevention media campaign to educate communities about how to keep their families safe from gun violence; the Center will expand programming to include gun violence prevention and advocacy workshops and forums; identification and assessment of priority communities stakeholders; strengthening partner relationships with current and new national, state and local grassroots organizations; and implementing effective and consistent communications strategies to meet our goal of reducing firearm-related injury and death.

The David Bohnett Fellow will:

  • communicate proficiently in Spanish (both oral and written) and be enrolled currently as a graduate, post graduate, doctoral, or post- doctoral student;
  • sustain and create new gun violence prevention initiatives with Hispanic and Latino communities and organizations including our media campaign, train-the-trainer workshops, Hechinger Speakers Bureau, national constituent partnerships, and God Not Guns Initiative;
  • develop and edit our culturally relevant materials and web site including responding to specific inquiries;
  • research and identify Hispanic/Latino grassroots contacts in selected communities to build coalitions that enlist support for broader gun violence prevention strategies;
  • interface with the public at forums to espouse the goals and mission of the Brady Center and the Initiative; and expand and update our database of allied Hispanic organizations and leaders.
