  • With victories in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals of Kansas, the Brady Center helped change the law in Kansas to hold bad apple gun dealers accountable for contributing to gun violence, won compensation for a mother who lost her son, and sent a powerful message to gun dealers who choose to profit off of criminals.

  • It’s really not possible to overstate the importance of this victory in Washington State. Voters in the Evergreen State overwhelmingly passed Initiative 594 to expand background checks to all gun sales, including online and at gun shows. With a decisive 60 percent of voters supporting I-594, it turns out that it’s a lot harder for the corporate gun lobby to bully voters than it is to bully politicians.

WASHINGTON - How a President chooses to allocate the nation's budget is a direct reflection of his or her priorities. President Barack Obama's fiscal year 2017 budget proposal, released today, makes it clear that gun violence prevention is at the top of his list. The proposed budget would create an even more effective National Instant Background Checks System (NICS) and fund the hiring of 200 additional federal agents at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. These specific funding proposals were included in the President's Executive Actions on Gun Violence in early January and require congressional approval.
