  • With victories in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals of Kansas, the Brady Center helped change the law in Kansas to hold bad apple gun dealers accountable for contributing to gun violence, won compensation for a mother who lost her son, and sent a powerful message to gun dealers who choose to profit off of criminals.

  • On May 11, 2015, Oregon became the eighth state to require life-saving Brady background checks for ALL gun sales with the signing of SB 941 into law by Governor Kate Brown. With its passage, Oregon joins Colorado, Connecticut, New York, Delaware, California, Rhode Island, and Washington in requiring background checks for every gun purchase, including purchases made online and at gun shows.

  • It’s really not possible to overstate the importance of this victory in Washington State. Voters in the Evergreen State overwhelmingly passed Initiative 594 to expand background checks to all gun sales, including online and at gun shows. With a decisive 60 percent of voters supporting I-594, it turns out that it’s a lot harder for the corporate gun lobby to bully voters than it is to bully politicians.
